About Scenic View Ranch

In 1994, I started raising elk. I bought some Manitoba cows and an own son of "Reed".  I also made several trips to Manitoba where I bought a great bull trapped in the wild off the Indian Reservation around Duck Mountain and Riding Mountains.  Many of our elk cows and hunting hogs came from Peter Kalden in St. Martin, Manitoba.  I wanted the best genetics for producing trophy antlers, big beams, and body weight.  Just last year, we sold two 400+  bull elk.  We were raising them for breeding stock and doing very well until the government closed the borders.  So now, we fenced about 300 acres of the most beautiful land God created in NE Iowa for hunting.

We usually have a great selection of trophy rams, fallow bucks, bison, Red Deer and wild hogs.  If you are looking for Whitetail, we have some awesome shooter bucks.  Call for pricing and class size.

The friends I have made in this business are too numerous to thank. So to all of you, I thank you for your business, your trust and your friendship.

Sincerely,

Lloyd Johanningmeier

PRESS RELEASE SEPTEMBER 28, 2005

Aaron Tippin

Famous Country Singer Aaron Tippin comes to Scenic View Ranch
for a Big Game Trophy Hunt

Scenic View Ranch owned and operated by Lloyd & Rex Johanningmeier, was host to a charity bull elk hunt Tuesday, September 27. The hunter, Eric McClanathan from Cedar Rapids, shot a big Manitoba bull, with an awesome 6 X 7 antler scoring about 375. The hunt was originally set up to promote Iowa Hunting Ranches in conjunction with the magazine Permission to Hunt Ultimate Outdoors that invited chart-topping country singer Aaron Tippin. The singer then donated his hunt to an organization called Wheelin Sportsmen, which provides hunting experiences to sportsmen in wheelchairs. Aaron then flew up on Monday evening to attend the hunt. Aaron is a long time outdoor sportsman.

Scenic View RanchThe hunt took place in the 250+ acre preserve that is a combination of heavily wooded brush, bluffs, springs, and alfalfa pasture. It was a challenging hunt but after 5 hours Eric was able to dispatch the bull with one clean shot that brought the big bull down. Eric said he owes his success to lots of practice shooting his 30-06 rifle. He has been using a wheelchair for about 17 years. The bull is being processed at Jet’s Meat in Waukon and is having his trophy mounted by Jeff Morris of Big River Taxidermy in Lansing.

Aaron Tippin showed us all the meaning of sportsmanship. He is very knowledgeable about hunting and he was very gracious and generous with his time. In the evening an Iowa pork chop dinner was served at Scenic View Campgrounds by Jeff & Joan Koehn of Elkader, IA and cowboy singer Pat Meade came up from southern Iowa to entertain. Aaron took up the guitar later on singing his chart-topping hits Stars & Stripes, You’ve Got to Stand for Something (or you’ll fall for anything), and Kiss This. He also sang and harmonized with Pat to the delight of all the staff and their families. Earlier this year Aaron played the Clayton County Fair in Iowa. Aaron described his tour of Kuwait with the late great Bob Hope and a return tour he hopes to have in support of the troops in Iraq. He is a proud father of two young sons, Teddy and Thomas, and talked about his wife, “a Montana girl who likes to sing.”

His stay in McGregor, IA and visits to Prairie Du Chien, WI caused quite a stir as people recognized the gifted singer. He signed every autograph requested and posed for hundreds of photos even though he was “on vacation”.
